Méribel, FranceMéribel is another among the many top-rate ski areas in the Trois-Vallees area of the French Alps. Meribel provides access to the entire ski area of the hundreds of miles of pistes of the Trois Vallees, the world’s largest interconnected ski area. It is also very close to the town of Moutiers which is serviced by a rail link with connections to Paris and London. Meribel is a great favourite of the English, the resort having been conceived by a British man, Colonel Peter Lindsay, in 1938. Monte Santo di Lussari, a mountain and place of pilgrimage. Several neighbouring areas within the Vanoise National Park form the ski area known as Méribel, including Méribel Centre, Méribel Village and Méribel-Mottaret. Méribel-Mottaret is a modern village located a few kilometres up the valley. Méribel has two snowparks, one in Meribel and one in Meribel-Mottaret, but boarders have access to all the parks within the Trois Vallees ski area. Aerial sightseeing trips of the area are available from the nearby Altiport. Night skiing is not available in Meribel at the time of writing. Méribel was the home of the Winter Olympic Games of 1992 (Albertville), and hosted the women’s downhill and ice hockey competitions. Meribel has plenty to offer in the way of apres-ski activities and entertainment. There are many lively bars and restaurants, for every taste from gourmet to budget. There is something for all levels of skier in Méribel. Non-skiers have a choice of activites including cross-country, snowshoeing, sledding, snowmobiling, ice-skating and dog sledding. There is also a bowling alley as well as plenty of browsing to be done in the shops, galleries and museums in the area.
