Verbier

Verbier is a traditional chalet-style town nestled in the Alps in the west of Switzerland and is part of the 4 Vallées ski area.  Various ski passes are available, giving access to local skiing or the huge ski area of the Four Valleys, as well as heli-skiing.

The Four Valleys encompasses eight Swiss resorts:  Evolène, Nendaz,, Bruson, La Tzoumaz, Siviez, Thyon les Collons, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Verbier.

Verbier attracts its share of the rich and famous, royalty and sports icons, but perhaps not on the same scale as the glamorous Swiss ski resorts of Gstaad and Klosters. For those who prefer less glitz and bling and more serious downhill action, Verbier may just fit the bill.

For non-skiers Verbier offers museums, art galleries, movie theatres, a sports centre and pool, ice skating, shopping and pampering at the beauty salons.  Pedestrian lift passes are available to meet up with skiers for lunch on the mountain or just take in the fantastic views.

As well as skiing and boarding, Verbier offers outdoor activities such as paraskiing, paragliding, tobogganing, dog sledding, ice climbing, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing,.

Verbier is known for its great variety of ski schools offering instruction and tuition in everything from off piste, powder skiing, snowboarding, freeride, heliskiing, trekking, children’s activities and much more.  The instructors come from many different countries so language barriers should not be a problem.  Verbier also has a ‘Les Elfes’ camp, which includes a winter camp and language classes for girls and boys from 8-18 years of age.

The high altitude of Verbier and its glacier gives skiers the peace of mind of knowing that good snow is practically guaranteed, and if the snow is slow arriving they are well set up with snow-making equipment.

The resort has plenty of lift capacity to carry skiers quickly up the mountain, and also a cable car to carry large numbers of skiers to the Mont Fort Glacier.  It is a ski paradise for expert skiers and boarders as well as providing plenty of gentler slopes and terrain for beginners.  The resort is a particular favourite of skiers who love to ski off piste (out of bounds).

Verbier is not lacking in its variety of nightlife with bars, pubs and restaurants, and nightclubs that stay open until the early hours.  Access to the resort is covenient from Geneva Airport, the airport at Sion, or by road or train.
