The Irish Government's travel advice pages provides a wealth of information including up to date news on the latest trouble spots, and some sound advice on what to do before you leave and some useful tips for your holiday itself.

Most Irish citizens who travel abroad do so without serious difficulty, often because they take the time to prepare themselves properly before they go.  Before you travel, familiarise yourself with your destination.  You can obtain information from your travel agent, from a guidebook or the Internet.

Even if you have travel insurance it is well worth getting a European Health Insurance Card. They are totally free and may help reduce the cost of medical excesses.
